Art
Statement of Intent
The intent of our Art and Design curriculum at Smithy Bridge is to enable pupils to develop a natural sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them linked to our strong school values. We value Art and Design as an important part of our children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum.
Art will inspire our children to think innovatively and develop creative procedural understanding with the use of a range of media and materials. It will provide pupils with the opportunities to develop and extend their skills and offer opportunities to express their individual interests, thought and ideas.
The artwork our children produce will be purposeful; be this as a means of expression or to explore the styles of other artists that inspire our own work. They will know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
With clear intended outcomes, our pupils will have a means to measure their own work against. They can be reflective and evaluate their own work, thinking about how they can make changes and keep improving, thus encouraged pupils to take risks and experiment.
